Patricia, there are many people with stories like yours. There are many chemicals on the market that are used commonly with negative side effects. That is bad enough, but the fact that some of them are touted by doctors and advertizing is worse. Sorry to hear of your experience. I agree with your conclusion.

For the past two years, whenever I have used Octioxate or/and Oxybenzone, I have had severe skin irritation. Including blisters, oozing puss, swollen eyes, itchy skin. My doc said stop using sunscreen and I did. But I got a manicure/pedicure recently and broke out on my face and arms. The lotion used during my service had those ingredients. Then I casually touched by face and BAM! This stuff is dangerous and should be taken off the market.

I certainly understand your concerns Ron. And I am inclined to think your conclusion is a good one after the research I did for this post. Our culture is pretty well inundated with chemicals as it is, and adding dangerous ones in sunscreens that are powered up by the sun, is something I want to avoid.

I live in Florida and I am concerned about over exposure to the sun,. but after studying your article I'm still confused as to what is the best sun screen to use. Presently I have 4, yes 4 different brands, all contain titanium dioxide and of course other chemicals. I'm beginning to think maybe I shouldn't use any and just where a hat, long sleeve shirts and long pants.

I wonder if decades of scaring people into slathering on toxic sunscreens has anything to do with these skin cancers?
