Franklin County Fun

Franklin County, Virginia is one of the counties bordering Smith Mountain Lake, Va. It is arguably one of the faster growing counties in the state and home to many wonderful businesses and community endeavors. Here you will find listed just a few of the interesting and worthwhile activities on the Franklin Co. calendar for March.

On Saturday, March 20th from 7 to 10 a.m. an ‘All You Can Eat Breakfast’ will be held at Applebees for only $5 per person. Benefits will go to Franklin County Relay for Life. Applebee’s is at 400 Old Franklin Turnpike in Rocky Mount, Va. For more info. contact Beth Simms at 276-732-5746.

On March 27th from 9am. to 4pm. you can develop your whittling skills by completing an old whittling project. Using just a knife, you create a ball in a box from a single block of wood! CELEBRATE RECOVERY – A Christ-centered, 12-step recovery program. Meets Fridays at 6 p.m. Gogginsville United Methodist Church, 111 Gogginsville Road, Rocky Mount. Call 540-483-3626 for more info.

If you own a farm and could use some basic information regarding farm ownership and production options, you will appreciate these classes:
*Tuesday, March 23. Gardening and fruit trees.
*Tuesday, March 30. Professional assistance from the Farm Service Agency, the Natural Resources & Conservation Service, the Blue Ridge Soil & Water District, Virginia Cooperative Extension and others.
Each class will be from 6pm. to 8:30 pm. at the Franklin Center in Rocky Mount, Va. The cost is $15 per person or $25 per couple.  To reserve your spot call 540-483-5161.

COMMUNITY BREAKFAST – At Penhook United Methodist Church on the first Saturday of each month from 7:30 to 10 a.m. Donations will go to Helping Hands of Franklin County and Stop Hunger Now. For more info. call 540-576-1768.

BLUEGRASS JAM SESSIONS – On Wednesday nights at 504 Wrays Chapel Road in Rocky Mount, Va. you can be sure the house is rocking with regulars and newcomers, all there to have a good time makin’ music. 

FRANKLIN COUNTY HISTORY MUSEUM & RESEARCH LIBRARY – Come and see pieces related to area history. Hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily, except Wednesdays and Sundays. Donations welcome. 469 S. Main St., Rocky Mount. Call 540-483-1890 or email fchistory@swva.net.
