Q IF IT PASSES, HOUSE BILL (HB2343) WOULD CHANGE THE NAME OF SMITH MOUNTAIN LAKE STATE PARK TO: A. VICTOR THOMAS-SMITH MOUNTAIN LAKE STATE PARK.The chief patron of this bill is Del. Watkins Abitt. It passed the committee on 02/02/07 and was introduced to honor A. Victor Thomas, a respected past member of the Va. House of Delegates. Original bill as follows:

A BILL to change the name of Smith Mountain Lake State Park to A. Victor Thomas-Smith Mountain Lake State Park.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1.  § 1. That the state park encompassing 1,248 acres situated on the north shore of Smith Mountain Lake in Bedford County, which was opened to the public in 1983 as Smith Mountain Lake State Park, shall hereinafter be named A. Victor Thomas-Smith Mountain Lake State Park.

The final vote on the State Park’s name change could take place as early as  Monday, Feb. 5th.
