wakefest 2007 smith mountain lakeWho would think you could really have an activity resembling surfing at Smith Mountain Lake? But it’s true and becoming more popular all the time. What exactly is wakeboarding? According to Encarta it is: the sport of jumping boat’s wake: a water sport in which somebody riding a single board is pulled behind a motor boat and performs jumps while crisscrossing the wake of the boat.

Come and watch or join in the fun on July 14th. Details and directions below.

The 2007 Smith Mountain Lake Wakefest presented by Wake N Skate Board Shop will be held at Bernards Landing on July 14th. Registration is at 8 am. Riding will be begin around 9 am.

The divisions are:
Grom. Amatuer. Ladies. Intermediate. Wakeskate. Over 40. Inverted, and Outlaw

There is a $500 prize for 1st place Outlaw.
Free stuff for all.
Music, food and games all day long.
$ 40 entry fee.

Directions To Bernards Landing:

From Roanoke, VA
Route 220 South, turn left at the Exxon-Bojangles-Dairy Queen complex on Route 697. Follow Route 697 to intersection with Route 122. Turn left onto Route 122 and continue for approximately 7 miles. Turn right onto Route 616, and continue approximately 7 miles. Turn left onto Ashmeade Road (Route 940). Route 940 will dead end at Bernard’s Landing. Registration is on the left at the Welcome Center above The Landing Restaurant.

From Richmond / Lynchburg, VA
Route 460 West to Route 122 South at Bedford. Turn left onto Route 122 and drive approximately 25 miles to Route 616. Turn left onto Route 616, and continue approximately 7 miles. Turn left onto Ashmeade Road (Route 940).

From Washington, D.C.
Route 29 South to Lynchburg. Route 460 West to Route 122 South at Bedford. Turn left onto Route 122 and drive approximately 25 miles to Route 616. Turn left onto Route 616, and continue approximately 7 miles. Turn left onto Ashmeade Road (Route 940).

From Greensboro / Winston-Salem /Raleigh, NC
I-40 to 220 North to Rocky Mount, VA. Take Route 40 for approximately 1.5 miles, turn left onto Route 122. Follow 122 for 17 miles. Turn right onto Route 616, and continue approximately 7 miles. Turn left onto Ashmeade Road (Route 940).
