Many groups, clubs, and organizations meet in the Smith Mountain Lake area. Here are just a few of the ones that meet for fun or business. If any of them catch your eye, you can find out more details by calling the phone number listed or writing their email address.

FRIENDS OF SML STATE PARK

Will meet Monday at 9:30 a.m. in the park Visitor’s Center. This is a volunteer organization that assists the park with its educational programs, helps staff the Visitor’s Center, and provides special events for the community throughout the year. SML WOMEN’S CLUB

Will meet Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. Guest speaker from the Henry Fork Service Center in Rocky Mount. Members are encouraged to wear pink to the meeting for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Luncheon to follow. Guests are welcome. Westlake Golf & Country Club, Hardy. Sheila, (540) 483-8050.

MONETA LIONS CLUB

Will meet Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Dan Farris and Roseann Richard will speak. The club meets first and third Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. Resurrection Catholic Church, Moneta. Pat Bailey, (540) 297-3519 or monetalions@aol.com.

LAKE SQUARE DANCERS

The group will start a new class for beginners and those who want to get back into square dancing. Tuesdays. 6 to 7 p.m. Open dance 7 to 9 p.m. The first two classes are free. Moneta Community Room, Rucker Road, Moneta. Alma, (540) 721-5671 or Bob, (540) 890-5843.

SML LIONS CLUB

Meets first and third Thursdays at 7 p.m. from September through June. Refreshments and a cash bar are available during a pre-meeting social at 6:30 p.m. The Waterfront Country Club, 275 Anchor Drive, Moneta. (540) 721-4080.

SML BALLROOM DANCE CLUB

A one-hour lesson with open dance and refreshments afterward. First Sundays at Bedford Middle School, 3 to 6 p.m. One-hour lesson with open dance and refreshments afterward. Third Fridays at the Moneta Community Center, 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Admission is free for students and first-time visitors, $5 for members and $8 for nonmembers. ROTARY CLUB OF SML
