New Development in Franklin County

August 4th, 2006 · Comment Now!

House The Franklin County Board of Supervisors has given the okay to plans to build Smith Mountain Lake’s newest residential development on Scruggs Road.  The development, called The Farm, aims to maintain a rural feel by using old farmhouse style architecture on all the homes.  The 100 acre development contains room for 17 lake-side cottages and approximately 50 interior homes, as well as a pool, park, picnic area, and community boat dock.

Discussion during the approval process centered around whether to include a walking trail in construction of The Farm to meet Franklin County’s open space requirement for all new developments.  This was eventually replaced with plans to construct two gazebos surrounded by holly bushes, and this proposal was approved in final form on July 25, 2006 by the Board of Supervisors.

With all permitting and zoning requirements now fulfilled, construction at The Farm will begin next year.
