There are countless ways to enjoy the summer months at Smith Mountain Lake - an afternoon on the water, grilling with friends on the dock, or an early morning on the water in pursuit that elusive trophy fish. But one thing you may not have experienced is a trip to TLC Blueberry Orchard in Moneta to pick a mess of succulent, organic blueberries grown right here at SML.
Peg Anderson, who owns TLC Blueberry Orchard, has been in business for about eight years. She sells the blueberries for $5 a pound, or $1.25 a pound if customers do their own harvesting. The blueberries are grown without any sprays or pesticides.
"Of course they’re better tasting," she told Courtney Cutright of the Roanoke Times. She adds, "That could be my bias." The rest of Courtney’s August 4th, 2006 article can be read here.
If you’re interested in getting out and trying some TLC blueberries for yourself, give Peg a call at 540-297-1168. They’re open 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily until September. Happy picking!
