I came across and interesting and informative publication the other day called the Blue Ridge Business Journal. Founded in 1988 and one of the oldest publications in Virginia, it covers the business news for 17 counties, including those around Smith Mountain Lake. The Journal publishes 25 issues a year and has more than 60,000 readers.

Even more impressive is the number of times it has been cited in it’s 16 years for journalistic excellence, and the awards won from organizations like the Virginia Farm Bureau, Roanoke Regional Chamber of Commerce, Small Business Advocate Award, etc.

The editor of the Blue Ridge Business Journal, Dan Smith is a multiple winner of awards himself. He has earned several for design and photography, editing, and writing from the Virginia Press Association.
