What do a rodeo, Texas, and Smith Mountain Lake have in common? Much to my surprise, the common theme is Bull Riding Contests! On selected Friday evenings at Lynchburgs’ Northwind Stables, this popular sporting event is held in a 1,200 seat indoor arena. They hold around 17 bull riding events each year, including a $5,000 final. They also maintain a family friendly, alcohol free, environment.
Each event typically features about 40 professional cowboys and prize money for the winner. You can visit Northwind Stables website and find out more about what they do, including how the bulls are treated (which was a concern of mine before I read their description of the event).
All bullriding shows are on Friday nights at 7:30pm. The next scheduled event is on Sept. 7th, then the finals on Oct. 5th. The last two shows of the year are on Nov. 2nd and Dec. 7th. Join the show in a (heated when weather cools) indoor arena, with security, and concession stands. Adults $9.00, Children 2-12 $6.00. Group rates are available. - Northwind Stables, 425 Coffee Road, Lynchburg - 434.384.4906 - www.bullbuckin.com
