If you live at Smith Mountain Lake or nearby, and like to ride mountain bikes, then we have a treat for you in case you weren’t aware. Several years ago, Virginia’s Parks and Recreation Departments in Va. came up with the idea for a mountain bike racing series, and in 2003 it was implemented into action.

The Virginia DeRailer Mountain Bike Race Series began with 5 races that year and has been enjoyed by many each year since. Anyone from beginners to advanced riders are welcome to compete and there will be over $2000 in cash prizes. Visit the Virginia DeRailer website for more info.

Sep 9 - Virginia DeRailer Mountain Bike Race Series 2007 - 11:00am start time - Peaksview Park has an 8-mile single track course with short, steep climbs and fast & tight sections that will challenge even the most technically advanced riders! Start is staggered with 2 minute intervals between each class. Starting time for race is 11:00 a.m. Your entry fee includes food & drink, SWAG, race prizes and loads of FUN! You can pre-register at Bikes Unlimited for $20 or on race day for $25.
