There will be a Living History weekend this month in Bedford near Smith Mountain Lake. Living History events make moments in our nations history come alive through discussion and live demonstrations of the time period. This particular Weekend will include talks and activities related to the U.S. and Allied Forces on D-Day.
On April the 12th – 13th from 10am till 5pm each day at the National D-Day Memorial, you can see an important part of our country’s past in living color. Come watch and listen to what went on with some of our servicemen during the difficult period which led up to D-Day.

Many troops still made time for their faith even during the worst of the war and on Sunday, the 29th Living History Association will conduct a period chapel service as seen in the field leading up to the Normandy invasion. Come be a part of ‘Soldiers and Sailors at Worship’ on Sunday the 13th at 10am!
Also during Living History weekend, visitors will enjoy a rare opportunity to learn the skills and challenges of being a US infantryman in WWII while also discovering the contributions and sacrifices of the WWII generation. Beach briefings, assault gear demonstrations, and weapons will be discussed. Guests can experience how assault boat teams were formed and how the troops readied for the Normandy invasion on 6 June 1944. Regular fees apply. – National D-Day Memorial, Bedford – 540-586-3329 – www.dday.org
