Smith Mountain Lake anglers start preparing now because on October 8th, 2006 you’ll have the chance to test your skills against the best fishermen on the lake. That’s the date of the Virginia Bass Federation’s Children’s Miracle Network bass tournament, held here on our very own Smith Mountain Lake. The tournament is one of four charity tournaments sponsored each year by the Virginia Bass Federation to raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network, so this is a great opportunity to raise money for a good cause as well as enjoy a day of fishing.
Entry fees are $100 per team with a top prize of $1,500 awarded to the winning team and a big fish award of $300 for the largest smallmouth or largemouth bass. In addition, all teams who enter the Smith Mountain Lake tournament will be eligible to enter the Charity Classic tournament on November 5, 2006, at Buggs Island Lake where they can compete for a $5000 top prize. The registration form for the SML tournament can be found at the Bass Federation website here. Their website also includes general tournament rules, though specific rules for the Smith Mountain Lake tournament will be handed out the morning of the event. If you need more information, you can also call the organizer, Roger Fitchett, at 757-428-4280. Good luck!
