hollyEntertainment: Attractions Leave a Comment

As we can see by the buds on the trees, the singing of the birds, and the warm, fresh breezes, Smith Mountain Lake is shaking off its wintery coat and donning the latest in summer attire.  And with this shift into warm weather, we look forward to one of our most admired area attractions… golfing!

Arnold Palmer – “Success in this game depends less on strength of body than strength of mind and character.”

In a recent article in the Free Smith Mountain Lake Guide SML Guide, writer William Sage quotes some other individuals with “sage” advice:

Mark Twain wasn’t a fan of the sport, saying, “Golf is a good walk spoiled.”  While there are many in the world who would agree with Mr. Twain, there are just as many folks who just can’t get enough of the sport.  Harry Vardon says it perfectly, “Don’t play too much golf.  Two rounds a day is plenty.”

So I thought I would take just a moment to highlight just a few of the popular courses that can be found in our area:

Private Courses: The Waterfront Country Club (540) 721-2397, The Water’s Edge (540) 576-3343
Public Courses: Mariner’s Landing Golf and Country Club (540) 297-7888, The Copper Cove Golf Club (540) 721-4214.

These are just a few of the fabulous courses available for playing in the Smith Mountain Lake area.  If you know of another course we should feature here on Smith Mountain Lake News, contact us and we’ll make sure to let folks know about it.  Thank you!
