It's All About BikesIf you are a fan of bicycle riding, then the next few weeks at Smith Mountain Lake will be full of exciting events for you.

First, on May 17 at 11:00 a.m., there will be the Annual Fat Tire Frenzy Bike Race. This annual race is held at Falling Creek Park in Bedford County Va. and will offer variety, challenge, and a great time. The 7 1/2 mile course wanders through Bedford County’s Falling Creek Park at an adventurous pace I am told. A kids’ race will begin at 10:00 in the morning and will take place on a paved 1/3-mile trail before the 11 a.m. start of the main race. So you can bring the whole family and enjoy a day at the park. Adult categories are as follows: Expert/Pro, Sport/Single speed/Clydesdale, and Novice. Each class will have a staggered start with 2-minute intervals. For more info. call 540-586-7682 or visit  bedfordtrails.wordpress.com

Also on May 17th as well as the 18th the 5th Annual Central Virginia Bike Festival will occur. This bike ride promises to be a day of breathtaking scenery and camaraderie as you pedal your way to the summit of the Blue Ridge Parkway. But best of all is that this Bike Festival is for a good cause. This weekend of events is a fundraiser benefiting the Patient Support Fund for the Centra Alan B. Pearson Regional Cancer Center, which provides financial support to cancer patients for non-treatment-related needs.

It will be held at the Forest Medical Complex and will be followed by fun music, food, prizes, and even massages. For further info. call 434-385-4157. Oh, and you don’t have to ride in this event to participate!  Ask your family, friends, neighbors, and coworkers for donations.  Your gift is 100% tax-deductible! Simply contact them at Phone: 434-385-4157.

And finally on May 31st at 11:00 am there will be the Peaksview Park Bike Race.
