The ConcertI am sure the spam that circulates on our emails at Smith Mountain Lake is no different than that anywhere in the world. It’s often quite obnoxious, and the friends who do mass forwards are rather frustrating as well. However, every once in a while a fact or fiction passes through cyberspace that is really worth reading. Who knows where they originate, but if they inspire us to be better people, they are worth the energy. I hope you will enjoy the one I have chosen to share below.

THE CONCERT

When the house lights dimmed and the concert was about to begin, the Mother returned to her seat and discovered that her youngest child was missing from his seat. The elder two children had been talking and had not noticed when he had slipped away.

Suddenly the lights went down and the curtains parted and the spotlight focused on the impressive Steinway Piano on the stage. To her horror, the Mother saw her little boy sitting at the keyboard, innocently picking out the tune to ‘Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star’.

At that moment the great piano master made his grand entrance, quickly moved to the piano and whispered in the boy’s ear, “Don’t quit…..Keep Playing”. Then leaning over, Paderewski reached down with his left hand and began filling in a bass part to the song. Soon his right arm reached around to the other side of the child and he added a running obbligato.

Together the old master and the young novice transformed what could have been a disastrous situation, into a wonderfully creative and beautiful experience.

The audience was so mesmerized by this occurrence, that by the end of the concert, they could not recall what else the great master had played, except the classic ‘Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star’.

Perhaps that’s the way it is with God. What we can play on our own is hardly noteworthy. We try our best, but the results are not always graceful, flowing music. However, with the guidance of the Master’s Hands, our life’s work can become truly beautiful.

The next time you set out to accomplish something, listen carefully for the Master’s direction. You may hear His voice whispering in your ear, “Don’t quit……Keep Playing!”

May we always remember that His hands are there, ready to help us do His will, and to turn our feeble attempts into true masterpieces! So………

“DON’T QUIT……KEEP PLAYING”
